As part of the “Everyday Carpooling” National Plan launched by the government, a promising initiative will see the light of day from January 1, 2023, to encourage drivers to opt for carpooling on their daily journeys, particularly home-to-work. This initiative is part of an eco-responsible approach aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while facilitating travel.
At the start of the new year, first-time short-distance carpoolers will have the opportunity to benefit from a €100 bonus, under certain conditions, designed to encourage this eco-responsible practice. The carpooling bonus will be paid progressively, in two stages, via the carpooling platform used for the journeys. This incentive, coupled with other measures in the plan, aims to triple the number of daily carpooling journeys by 2027, marking a significant step towards a more sustainable and collaborative lifestyle.
In the following paragraphs, we’ll detail the conditions of eligibility for this bonus, the steps you need to take to benefit from it, and answer some frequently asked questions about this exciting new measure.
The bonus for first-time drivers is an incentive measure launched as part of the “Everyday Carpooling” National Plan. This €100 bonus is intended for drivers who engage in short-distance carpooling from January 1, 2023. The aim of this measure is to encourage carpooling, particularly on home-to-work journeys, and thus help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Carpooling is an effective way of reducing the carbon footprint of our journeys, saving around 6 kg of CO² per trip.
The introduction of this bonus is part of an environmental context in which the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions is paramount. The government aims to achieve three million car-sharing journeys per day by 2027, compared with 900,000 at present. The National Plan allocates a budget of 150 million euros for various aids, including the 2023 first-time driver bonus, to encourage daily carpooling.
First-time drivers benefiting from the bonus can save on their transport costs, contribute to environmental protection, and create social links by carpooling with others.
To be eligible for the bonus, drivers must hold a valid driving license and engage in carpooling as a driver for the first time in 2023.
There are no specific conditions relating to the vehicle, but the distance of the journey in France must not exceed 80 km, and journeys must be made via an eligible car-sharing operator.
It is crucial to register on an eligible platform and to validate your carpooling journeys within the allotted time to avoid any ineligibility or delay in the payment of the bonus.
The bonus for first-time drivers is a great opportunity for the year 2023 to adopt more sustainable travel habits.
At Moovance, we fully support this initiative and encourage all new drivers to take advantage of it.
